This weeks research summary goes over an article released in March 2003 in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. It is a key research paper for the Chiropractic BioPhysics techniques because it looks at the effect of seated compression extension cervical spinal traction in the restoration of the sagittal alignment of the cervical spine. The authors had the study groups split into two groups. The first group received the seated cervical compression extension traction along with spinal manipulation, while the second group (control group) received no treatment at all.
The control group reported no statistically significant changes in VAS scores or cervical spinal alignment when compared to follow up lateral cervical radiographs. The group receiving traction showed improvement in VAS scores, Cobb angle scores, anterior weight bearing and the angle of posterior tangents from C2-C7. After a follow up period of 14 months, 70% of the participants in the treatment group showed that they maintained anterior weight bearing improvement as well as the cervical lordosis.
It is extremely important to understand that at Complete Health Chiropractic we perform traction and our goal is true spinal correction. This study 15 years ago shows that it is possible to have consistent and reliable treatment methods and results. When you lose the normal alignment in your neck, it can cause all sorts of problems that normal spinal manipulation may have difficulty correcting permanently. These problems can include neck pain, back pain, sciatica, headaches and migraines, shoulder pain and arm pain. And that just covers the pain categories. When you have pain, it is your bodies way of telling you that something is wrong. Pain, when it is due to your spinal column being out of shape, can also be an indication that your nervous system function may also be being affected. Your nervous system lives inside your spinal column and the shape of the spinal column can affect how your nervous system functions.
Have the structure of your spine analyzed at Complete Health Chiropractic in Littleton and find answers to the problems you are dealing with. We accept all insurances and will do a complimentary benefits check when you come in for your initial evaluation. We are located near the intersection of C470 and Broadway in South Denver. We go beyond spinal manipulation and often times can offer superior results. We look forward to meeting you!
