Breast feeding your newborn infant can be one of the most important things you do to promote a healthy life after he or she is born. Evidence indicates that breast feeding exclusively for 6 months provides better protection against gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections. When your newborn can't breastfeed properly, it can cause decreased immunity, increase chances for food allergies and decrease the mother-child bond.
When babies have problems with breastfeeding we look for a misalignment in the upper spine that is making it uncomfortable for the baby to lay on its side and feed properly. This misalignment also puts tension on the brain stem and can cause problems with many organ systems in the body. The reason we often find misalignments in the new born is because of the traumatic nature of the birthing process. For this reason, it is vital to have your child's spine and nervous system checked very soon after birth. Beginning life with no interference, is the best thing any one of us can do for our child's health.
